On Tuesday 15th September Grades 1& 2 boys and girls visited the fire station. The local firehouse was filled with heroes whom children enjoyed meeting. The fire department displayed their equipment. A pre-arranged tour of the fire department gave the kids a close view of the shiny fire trucks. The close-ups of the fire hoses and the length of the extended ladders surprised the kids. The screech of the siren that sounded just for their benefit brought about contagious giggles of glee. The doubts raised by the kids were cleared by the fireman. A successful day’s trip to the local fire department was a fun learning activity as the children can’t help coming away without a better understanding of fire safety.
